Puppies will be (1) de-wormed and, (2) at 8-9 weeks, will be examed by a mobile licensed vet, (3) receive their first set of DHPP shot ( distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus). Future puppy shot schedule should be followed: a 11-12 week DHPP (+/- influenza); a 14-15 week DHPP, Rabies (+/- influenza) and a 17-18 week final DHPP. Other vacinations might be recommended by your veternarian. Rabies is done no sooner than 12 weeks. Vet records will be emailed to each new family, which should be given to the vet of your choice for future care. Included in the "take-to-new-home" package will be the AKC Registration Kit, parent pedigrees, house breaking information, puppy feeding schedule and a Victor Dog Food Distributor map for your area. We will also provide a bag of Victor Dog Food and favorite treats, as well as a soft toy and blanket so the puppy takes comfort smells to the new home. In the past, I have used a ticking wind up clock and/or a heartbeat snuggle toy with my new puppies so the puppy has a "heart beat" similar the mother. This might be a comfort to the puppy in the new home.  Also, families have reported that keeping the puppy in their bedroom at night eliminated puppy crying. You can avoid getting water in ears during bathtime by putting cotton in ears, then cleaning interior ears, as well as eyes and rear end/anus hairs with baby wipes.

Sire with local champion bloodline. Parents are black, with healthy skin and no allergies. All of the puppies have been black, with none being brindle or wheaton, though the mothers carry the wheaton gene. There is no history of cancer or other serious illness and are not taken to dog parks where dog illnesses are prevelant. Puppies will not be not be exposed to other dogs. Neither are my puppies exposed to other animals at a veterinary clinic, as my vet is a mobile vet who comes to my home.

A deposit is taken to reserve puppy in the amount of 1/2 the cost of the pup. This will reserve a puppy prior to seeing the puppies. Selection of a puppy will be based on the order of deposit paid; first deposit gets first choice of pup, etc. If a puppy is not chosen, the deposit is refunded: for refund, decision to cancel purchase of puppy should be by the time the puppy is 8 weeks of age. The balance is due in cash when the new owner picks up the puppy.

It is beneficial for the puppies to be with their mother until 10 weeks old. We work on socializing and training puppies during this time: 1) interacting with children, other family members, as well as their puppy siblings, and 2) learning "no" and using training "potty" paper. Puppies are handled daily at birth to assure each gets enough nurishment and, at 2 weeks, each puppy is handled for 15-30 minutes at least once a day. Puppies are children friendly as they are played with by my grandchildren. This ensures that they learn to enjoy human contact.  Puppies may be viewed after 5 weeks and go their new home between 9 to 10 weeks, after they get their first set of shots. I will continue to update photos on this website, as well as send photos and videos using text and email. You can see from the photos that my scotties are house pets and, when unattended and not at play, sleep in a pet play pen in the family room next to the patio door, which is where the puppies are born. Additional pictures are available on the AKC website.

Recommendations: Harnesses help secure Scotties when walking as their large head can slip out of a collar. Always seat belt your beloved pet using a harness when riding in vehicle. Avoid plastic feeding dishes; glass, stainless steel, porcelain, even safe kitchen dishware/cookware make good pet dishes. Other concerns to watch for are dog food from China, certain treats, such as rawhide, and toys that might be might possess carcinogens, as plactic is a petroleum product. Children's toys might prove to be safer, as pet toys have little or no regulations. Hollow toys are hazardous, as chewed off pieces can cause obstructions. Solid rubber balls are excellent; Kong makes great balls. Discard all damaged toys. Pesticides are harmful, as pets lick feet. When using pesticides, fence off treated areas. Washing or wiping feet with baby wipes helps keep feet clean from any possible contamination from pesticides if you walk your scottie, especially if your 4 legged friend is licking feet. Long nails and paw pad hairs can cause feet pain and lead to feet licking. Many vegetables make great treats and are healthy for all dogs. If in doubt about material safety, use a lead test strip. Because of skin lotions and creams, it is important that puppies not be allowed to lick our skin, including a puppy's favorite lick spot, the chin. Helpful "potty" training hints: keep bedding, toys, play area and  "dirty" feet clean. This helps train the pup to training paper by keeping the scent only on the paper. When the scent is elsewhere, it distracts the puppy from the intended "potty" area. Feet should be washed often as they are wet with pee or the poo that has been stepped in. If scratchy after grooming or bathing, be sure that all cut hair and shampoo is thoroughly rinsed off; hair/scap conditioner for sensitive skin might also be helpful. To reduce accidents, puppies are put back in the puppy play pen often when they have been out playing with family members. This gives them a chance for drink and peeing.

Healthy Skin:  Though skin issues can be related to allergies to food and grass, there may be other causes: 1) Bug bites such as misquitoes, gnats and ants will cause itching and scratching. Yards can be treated with pet/child safe chemicals, though should be allowed to dry before exposure. Additional safety measures include watering down the following day, then again allowing to dry. Other ant treatment include borac acid/sugar/water paste on waffle placed in plastic container with a hole in the lid for ants to enter. This not only kills ants immediately, but some ants will take waffle pieces back to nest, killing all ants. Misquitoes may be reduced by putting a Misquito Dunk in milk carton of water. Misquitoes will lay eggs here and mixtures kills both. Containers should be pet proof and/or out of reach of pets. 2) Indoor and outdoor household chemicals can lead to feet licking. Outdoor chemicals can be washed off feet using a water hose or small plastic tub of water before entering house. Vinegar is a safe indoor cleaner. Itching can be reduced using a pain or itch relief spray, as well as a hair scalp conditioner. A soft stretchy pet surgical suit will protect skin from persistent scratching and allow time to heal.  Long toe nails and long feet/paw hair can also cause feet licking. Keep trim to prevent licking. Great vitamins for skin and general health are NuVet Plus, which is high in Vitamin A, and Nutri+Vet Fish Oil.

* If for any reason you are unable to care for your puppy and are not able to resale your pup, I encourage you to consider returning the pup to me instead of handing over to the SPCA or ScottieRescue.

* I reserve the right to refuse to sell my puppies if I think it is not in the best interest of the puppy.*
